
Spitfires Defeat IceDogs 11-3

The Windsor Spitfires defeated the IceDogs 11-3 in Niagara on Friday evening.
In the first period, the Spitfires opened the scoring just 33 seconds into the game. Maillet buried his 4th on the season off a rebound. Maggio and Thomas Johnston had assists on the play. The IceDogs would respond with 2 goals 7 minutes apart and take a 2-1 lead. The lead only lasted 25 seconds as Abraham responded finishing off a beautiful passing play from Christopoulos and Maillet. The first period ended 2-2. Niagara outshot the Spitfires 17-9.
In the second period, the Spitfires offence came alive. They started the period on the powerplay as there was a penalty after the Abraham goal and 16 seconds left in the first. Just a minute and 34 seconds into the period Renwick would slap home his 3rd of the season on the powerplay from DeAngelis and Maillet. Just over two minutes later, Renwick would score again off an offensive zone draw. Abraham had the lone assist on the play and the Spitfires took a 4-2 lead. Another 4 minutes later, Miedema found O'Flaherty on a 2 on 1 and he scored his second of the season. Niagara would respond 6 minutes later to make it a 5-3 score. Maggio would respond late in the 2nd and the Spits would take a 6-3 lead heading into the 2nd intermission.
In the third period, the Spitfires would score 5 unanswered goals from Cristoforo with his first career OHL goal followed by Sobolev with his first of the season, Abraham, Peer and O'Flaherty and cruise to a huge 11-3 victory.
The Spitfires are back in action on Saturday in Erie. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00pm.
