
Spitfires Resilient over 67s in 5-3 Win

The Spitfires travelled to Ottawa on Saturday after a morning skate in Kingston. They faced off against the 67s on Sunday afternoon at TD Place.
In the first period, both goaltenders stole the show and kept the offences at bay. The games first goal went to the 67s as Gardiner buried a rebound off a point shot to give the 67s the lead. Less than two minutes later, the Spitfires responded. Off an offensive zone faceoff, Peer won it towards the net and Davis tipped the puck back to Peer and he buried it for his 12th of the season. The shots were 15-11 in favour of the 67s after 20 minutes.
In the second period, both teams would have a powerplay opportunity and both came up empty. There was no scoring in the frame however the 67s came close a few times as the Spitfires turned-over the puck a lot late in the frame. The shots 22-19 in favour of Ottawa after 40 minutes.
In the third period, Peer got a delay of game penalty and sent the 67s to the powerplay. With just 6 seconds left on the powerplay, the 67s would score to go up 2-1. The Spitfires would not give up and rally back. Four minutes later, the Spitfires only needed 7 seconds on a powerplay to convert as Greentree sniped his 15th of the season. Just two minutes later, the 67s would respond to go up 3-2. That would be the last goal for the 67s; as the Spitfires were resilient in the final 10 minutes of the game. Just over a minute later, the Spitfires would respond to tie the game at 3, as Zhugin would score his 2nd goal as a Spitfire and 11th of the year. Just 3 minutes later, Greentree would slice though the 67s defence and find Peer on the backdoor for a tap in and the Spitfires were up 4-3 with 6:30 to play. In the final seconds, the 67s would pull their netminder for the extra attacker and Greentree would score to seal the deal as the Spitfires would win 5-3.
The Spitfires took home 4 points out of a possible of 6 and will be looking to keep up the positive momentum heading into next week.
The Spitfires are on the road again in Barrie on Thursday evening for a 7:00pm puck drop followed by a Friday night game in Guelph with puck drop scheduled for 7:30pm.
