Windsor Spitfires News Release
At a Spring Mini-Camp filled with a few high-end second-year players and a crew of highly-touted newcomers, it was a 14th round draft pick that stole the show Saturday at the WFCU Centre.
Chris Dodero scored twice, including the winner, as Team Blue (featuring Jordan Maletta, Adam Bateman and Hunter Smith) came back to beat Team Red (featuring Josh Ho-Sang and returnee Sam Studnicka) 4-3 in a scrimmage to wrap a busy day.
30 returning players, drafted prospects and free agent hopefuls went through extensive physical assessment and drills and later practiced before squaring off in a game spanning two 25-minute stop-time periods.
Dodero's second of the game broke a 3-3 tie three minutes into the second period. Goalie Jordan DeKort did the rest, making 21 saves for the win.
Dalen Kuchmey made 25 saves in goal, while Josh Ho-Sang, Aaron Langlois (Windsor Major Midgets) and Ryan Verbeek scored in a losing cause for Team Red.
Matt Yantzi and Mitchell Graham had the other goals for Team Blue.
Chris Cobham chipped in a pair of assists for the winners.
