
Spitfires Down Knights 4-1

Windsor Spitfires News Release
The Spitfires were rested and ready to go after 2 games in 19 hours and a lot of bus travel. The Spitfires would frustrate the Knights all evening and take down the 6th ranked team in the CHL 4-1.
In the first period, the special teams units were on the ice for majority of the period. A penalty 7 seconds in for a trip by Wright was followed up by a trip 50 seconds later by the Knights. As 4 on 4 expired, the Spitfires went to the powerplay with a minute and 15 seconds to work with. It took just 30 seconds before the Spitfires fired the puck into the back of the net. A broken play through the London zone, landed on the stick of Harrison who scored his 21st on the season. Christopoulos and Dionicio had assists on the goal. Ten minutes later, the Knights tried to goat the Spitfires into penalties after the whistle but the Spitfires stood strong. The Knights took a tripping call and then another call after the whistle for roughing. With a 5 on 3 advantage, it took 7 seconds for the Spitfires to score. Wright won the faceoff to Dionicio and he passed it to Harrison who walked down the wing and passed the puck backdoor to Wright who scored his 3rd of the season. The Spitfires had a 2-0 lead after the period and trailed in shots 12-10
In the second period, it was Captain Maggio extending the Spitfires lead to 3-0 with his 30th on the season and a beautiful breakaway goal. The Knights had a powerplay opportunity but the Spitfires PK was perfect. The Knights led in shots 27-17 after 2 periods of play.
In the third period, the Spitfires and Costanzo shut it down. The Knights would score with the net empty and 4 minutes to play to make it a 3-1 game. With the net empty, Wright would score to make it a 4-1 game with his 2nd of the evening and the Spitfires would win a statement game and move into first in the Western Conference.
The Spitfires are back in action on Thursday when the Erie Otters come to town. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
