
Spirit's Kelly Named Player of the Month

DURHAM, N.C. â North Shore right-handed pitcher John Kelly was named the Rawlings Player of the Month for August by league statistician SportsTicker Boston on Monday.
Kelly went 4-0 in 38 innings and allowed only two runs during the month, pitching three complete game shutouts, walking seven and striking out 45. The month typifies a tremendous season for Kelly, who went 13-2 with a 2.72 ERA and is slated to start the first game of North Shore's playoff series versus Québec on Wednesday. He hasn't surrendered a run in his last three starts (24 innings).

Kelly won his fourth player of the week honor on August 25 and also won the award on July 14, June 23 and June 9. He played for Codogno in Italy last year.
With today being the last day of the regular season, Kelly ranks first in the league in wins (13), first in shutouts (5), second in complete games (8), third in strikeouts (139), third in earned run average (2.17) and fifth in innings pitched (128 1/3). He has yielded one home run all season.
