Spirit Take on Knights on Superhero Night

Saginaw, Mich. - The Saginaw Spirit (15-8-0-1) return home to take on the London Knights (15-9-0-1) on Saturday, December 2nd, at the Dow Event Center.

Tonight is Superhero night in conjunction with CAN Council and Yeo & Yeo. The Spirit will be wearing specialty superhero jerseys to be auctioned off after the game, with proceeds benefiting CAN Council.

Last Matchup:

The last time the Spirit and the Knights faced off was on October 22nd at the Dow Event Center. Nic Sima scored his first career hat trick, which included the game-tying goal early in the third period. Zayne Parekh, Joey Willis, and former Spirit forward Valentin Zhugin were added the rest of the scoring to give Saginaw a 6-4 victory over London. Nolan Lalonde started in net for the Spirit and made 26 saves on 30 shots while Owen Willmore stopped 22 of 27 for London.

Last Time:

The Saginaw Spirit defeated the Soo Greyhound by a score of 3-1 on Friday, December 1st, at the GFL Memorial Gardens. Rodwin Dionicio was the first to score with Calem Mangone there for the assist. Hunter Haight was the next to score a Spirit goal with assists coming from Matyas Sapovaliv and Zayne Parekh. Zayne Parekh sealed the scoring early in the third, unassisted, to give Saginaw the victory. Andrew Oke secured his eighth win in his last nine starts by stopping 27 of 28 shots.

The London Knights lost at home to the Mississauga Steelheads by a score of 5-1 Friday night. Denver Barkey was the only one to score a goal for London with Kasper Halttunen and Easton Cowan being credited with assists. Michael Simpson started in net for the Knights and made 26 saves on 30 shots on goal while Ryerson Leenders started in net for the Steelheads making 29 saves on 30 shots on goal.

Players to Watch:

November's OHL Defenseman of the Month Zayne Parekh currently leads the Spirit in points (33) and in assists (23). Michael Misa is currently tied for second on the team in points (30) with Matyas Sapovaliv (11G, 19A) and Hunter Haight (10G, 20A). Misa also leads Saginaw in goals scored (12). Andrew Oke continues to lead all Spirit goaltenders with a 2.66 goals against average (GAA), a .905 save percentage (SV%), and 11 wins on the year.

Denver Barkey (14G, 20A) leads the Knights in points with 34. Kasper Halttunen leads in goals scored with 18 while Easton Cowan leads in assists with 22. Michael Simpson leads all Knight goaltenders with a 2.72 goals against average (GAA), a .908 save percentage (SV%), and 11 wins on the year.

Saginaw currently has seven (7) players with ties to the National Hockey League (NHL), including Joey Willis (Nashville), Matyas Sapovaliv (Vegas), Hunter Haight (Minnesota), Ethan Hay (Tampa Bay), Braden Haché (Florida), Rodwin Dionicio (Anaheim) and Nolan Lalonde (Columbus, FA).

London currently has nine (9) NHL drafted players in Easton Cowan (Toronto), Kasper Halttunen (San Jose), Jacob Julien (Winnipeg), Max McCue (San Jose), Denver Barkey (Philadelphia), Landon Sim (St. Louis), Isaiah George (NY Islanders), Oliver Bonk (Philadelphia), and Jackson Edward (Boston).
