North Shore Spirit News Release
The North Shore Spirit swept a doubleheader from Allentown Saturday, by the scores of 4-1 and 7-0. The Spirit combined solid pitching from Jeremy Sugarman and Bryan Morse and homerun power off the bats of Rob Fischer and Carlos Sepulveda to earn a spilt of their four-game series with visiting Allentown.
The Spirit came out flying in game one. Carlos Sepulveda (6-HR) hit a solo shot to left field in the first for a 1-0 lead. It would stay 1-0 until the third inning.
In the third, Allentown touched up Sugarman for their only run. Ender Gonzales singled and promptly scored on a Vic Davilla double to make the score 1-1. Sugarman (4-1) was tough from the third inning on, not allowing another run, to earn his fourth victory of the year. Sugarman, who struck-out three, used his sharp slider to induce three Allentown double plays. Sugarman scattered nine Allentown hits and worked out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning.
The Spirit put the game out of reach in the fourth inning. With two-outs Ed Muth (2-hits) singled before Rob Fischer (3-HR) clouted a monstrous 2-run homer to left for a 3-1 score.
The Spirit closed out the scoring in the sixth. Sepulveda singled to lead of the inning, advanced second on an error and reached third on a Frank Charles fly-out to right. Fran Riordan's line-drive singled knocked Sepulveda home for the final 4-1 score.
Allentown starter John Dillinger (5-5) worked six innings and suffered the loss.
In the night cap, Spirit starter Bryan Morse (3-4) was simple outstanding. Morse, who gave up a lead-off single to Jorge Diaz to begin the game, retired the next 19 batters in a row and faced the minimum heading into the seventh inning. Morse, who ended the game with a strike-out, gave up just three hits for the complete game victory.
The Spirit jumped on Allentown starter Kevin Perrucci (1-2) in the first. John Schmitz singled and a Sepulveda double put runners on second base and third for Frank Charles. Charles (30-RBI) lofted a fly-ball to left field scoring Schmitz for a 1-0.
The third inning was thrilling, after Fischer walked to lead-off the frame, Yuri Sanchez (18- RBI) tripled to score Fischer; Marcos Agramonte (27-RBI) followed Sanchez with a triple scoring Sanchez to make the score 3-0.
The Spirit added a pair of runs in the fifth, when Fischer (4-HR, 8-RBI) hit a two run homer and added two more on a Sepulveda (7-HR, 33-RBI) blast for the final 7-0.
The Spirit, twin-wins improves their record to 11-9 and Allentown drops to 8-13.
The Spirit enjoy a Sunday off before returning to action Monday night against Berkshire in Pittsfield, MA.
The game can be heard on flagship station WESX 1230 AM beginning at 6:30. The first pitch is slated for 7:00.
Spirit notes. Agramonte's triple, in game two, ties the league record of most triples in a season. Sepulveda has hit homeruns in four consecutive games. Fischer has hit homeruns in two consecutive games. Sepulveda 33-RBI leads the club.
