Allentown Ambassadors News Release
The Allentown Ambassadors were swept in a doubleheader by the North Shore Spirit Saturday evening in Lynn, Massachusetts, losing the first game 4-1 and the second 7-0.
The Ambassadors had a golden opportunity in the top of the first inning in the first game, leaving the bases loaded with two out when Kevin Moore struck out. The Spirit then jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a solo home run from Carlos Sepulveda, a no-doubter to left field. It was Sepulveda's third game in a row with a home run, and his sixth of the season.
The Ambassadors would tie the game in the third, with a Vic Davilla double scoring Ender Gonzalez. But Rob Fischer would give the Spirit the lead in the fourth inning with a two run home run to left. North Shore added an insurance run in the sixth, and the Ambassadors again left the bases loaded in the seventh, with Vic Davilla grounding out to end the game. The Ambassadors had nine hits in the game, but grounded into three double plays.
Jeremy Sugarman got the win, a complete game victory, to make his record 4-1. John Dillinger also pitched a complete game, and picked up the loss. He is now 5-5 and has lost his last four games. Fischer finished the game 2-3 with two RBI.
In game two the Ambassadors were shutdown by Spirit starter Bryan Morse, who pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out eight. Morse gave up a single to Jorge Diaz to begin the game, but Diaz was thrown out trying to steal second and Morse then retired the next 19 batters in a row before giving up singles in the ninth to Gonzalez and Davilla.
The Spirit again scored a run in the first to take a 1-0 lead, and stretched it out in the fourth, scoring two more on back-to-back triples from Yuri Sanchez and Marcos Agramonte off Ambassador starter Kevin Perrucci. Fischer hit a two run home run off reliever Chris Kelly in the fifth, and Sepulveda added another two run home run in the sixth. Sepulveda has now homered in four straight games and has seven this season. Fischer has four home runs in 37 at-bats this season. Sepulveda finished the game 2-4 with two RBI.
The win was the fourth complete game for Morse this season and his first shutout. His record is now 3-4. Perrucci took the loss and he is now 1-2. The Spirit now have a league best 9-2 record in doubleheaders this season, while the Ambassadors are 4-10. The Spirit improved their second half record to 11-9, while the Ambassadors fell to 8-13. The Ambassadors have tomorrow off, and begin a four game homestand and a three game series against Elmira on Monday night at Bicentennial Park.
