North Shore Spirit News Release

The North Shore Spirit blanked the Brockton Rox 9-0 in their exhibition opener Thursday night May 19th at Fraser Field.

Five Spirit pitchers combined on the shutout, holding the Brockton offense to only six hits. Ken Ray started for North Shore, pitching the first three. Jake Mullis picked up the win in relief, going three innings while yielding just two hits. Rox starter Manny Tejada suffered the loss.

The Spirit opened the scoring with a single run in the first. Yuri Sanchez led off with a double into the left field corner. Two batters later, Sanchez scored on a groundout by third baseman Eric Storey. North Shore tacked on two more runs in the second. With one down, Jake Wallis walked and advanced to third on a double by Garrett Weir. After Stephen Carter walked to load the bases, Brockton failed to turn a double play on BJ Weed's slow roller, allowing both Wallis and Weir to score.

The lead ballooned to 5-0 in the fourth. Weed continued his big night with a scorching double to the gap in left-center that plated a pair. North Shore concluded the scoring in the bottom of the sixth. Bryant Jones and Alex Trezza chipped in RBI singles. All-star, Vic Davilla drove home two with a double that made the score Spirit nine, Rox nothing.
