
Spirit Offense Explodes with 5-2 Win Over Generals

The Saginaw Spirit beat the Oshawa Generals, one of the top teams in the OHL Eastern Conference, in a 5-2 victory Sunday night. The Spirit wrapped up their third consecutive three-in-three weekend series with three more points on the standings, and end the weekend leading the Ontario Hockey League with 17 points and a record of 8-2-1-0. Ivan Telegin earned the game's first star honors with two goals, and Vince Trocheck and Ryan O'Connor provided two assists each in the effort.
Both teams swapped goals in the opening frame. Spirit winger Anthony Camara scored his third goal of the season in the opening seconds of the game, at the 0:16 second mark, from winger Jordan Szwarz and defenseman Matt Ashman. Moments later the Generals scored on the power play, with defenseman Tony DeHart scoring from wingers Lucas Lessio and Andy Andreoff. The Gens would briefly take the lead following the start of the second period. Center Boone Jenner tallied a power play goal at the 0:17 second mark from defensemen Nick Quick and Calvin de Haan.
The Spirit offense would explode for four unanswered goals once the second period got going. Center Ivan Telegin would tie up the contest with a goal at 2:11 in the second courtesy an assist from center Michael Sgarbossa. Two Spirit power play goals moved the score to 4-2 Saginaw, the first coming from winger Josh Shalla at 9:19 and the second from Szwarz at 12:37; center Vince Trocheck and defenseman Ryan O'Connor assisted on both power play markers. Telegin would wrap up the second period and give the Spirit a healthy lead with his second goal of the night, tallied at the 13:44 mark courtesy an assist from defenseman Joe Underwood.
Spirit goalie Mavric Parks notches 22 saves on 24 shots. Generals netminder Michael Zador posted 20 saves on 25 shots.
