The North Shore Spirit got back on the winning track Friday night with a 5-2 victory over the Grays.
Bryan Morse (3-0) picked up the win for the Spirit. Morse pitched 7 innings, allowing two earned runs. Mark Comolli tossed two perfect innings of relief to record his first save of the season. Jodie Kennedy (1-1) was saddled with the loss for the Grays.
The Spirit started off early with a two-out double by first baseman Vic Davilla in the top first inning. DH Travis Oglesby followed with a monster homerun.
The Grays responded with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Greg Strickland, the Grays leadoff hitter, singled and stole two bases. First baseman Mark Burke knocked a single to left field scoring Strickland. This cut the deficit to 2-1.
In the top of the second, the Spirit centerfielder Rob Fischer hit a solo shot to left center.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Grays offense came back to life. After a one out double and a stolen base by Burke, third baseman Willie King hit a single to plate Burke chopping the North Shore advantage to 3-2.
In the top of the seventh, the Spirit showed no mercy scoring two more runs. Centerfielder Garrett Weir singled. Weir attempted to steal and reached third on an error by catcher Brad Hargreaves. After a Yuri Sanchez walk, Marcos Agramonte grounded into a fielder's choice, enabling Weir to score. The Spirit continued to hit on Juan Rodriguez. Eric Storey hit a double to plate Agramonte increasing the lead to 5-2.
