Saginaw Spirit News Release
Tonight, fans gathered at The Dow Event Center to take part in a meet and greet with Hockey Hall of Famer and former Detroit Red Wing Larry Murphy, presented by Causley Trucking and Maier and Associates! The Saginaw Spirit would then go on to defeat the Windsor Spitfires by the score of 3-1!
Josh Shalla got the scoring started for the Spirit with a backhanded shot under a sprawling Windsor netminder to put the Spirit up 1-0. Assisting on the shot was Michael Fine and John McFarland. The Spirit kept their lead of 1-0 as they entered the second period.
The second period saw both teams sending players to the penalty box however neither team would convert on their power plays and the second period would see no scoring from either side. Almost halfway into the third period, the Spitfires scored their first goal to tie up the score. The goal was scored by Brady Vail, assisted by Kerby Rychel and Brandon Devlin. Shortly thereafter the Spitfires would lose control of a break out pass and Nick Moutrey took a shot on net. Jimmy Lodge would be there on the doorstep to fire in the rebound to regain the Spirit lead, 2-1. The Spitfires pulled their goalie during the last minute of play, but Josh Shalla would score the empty netter to seal the victory for the Spirit.
