Spirit Add to Roster

Lynn, Mass. -- The North Shore Spirit have come to contract agreements with the following players for the upcoming 2004 season: Landon Stockman, Gary Bell, Alex Carbajal, Chris Miller, Joseph Hastings, and Dan Hall.

Landon Stockman, 24, is a right-hand pitcher who spent last season with the Lakeland Tigers of the Florida State League. A Dickson, Texas native, Stockman has a career ERA of 4.04 and finished the 2003 season with a 5.20 ERA along with 31 strikeouts. He was selected by the Detroit Tigers in 13th round of the 2001 draft.

Left-hand pitcher Gary Bell, 24, will also contribute to the Spirit pitching staff. He resides in Ponce Inlet, Florida and finished up the 2003 season for the Battle Creek Yankees of the Mid-west League. He has a career ERA of 3.47 and finished his last season with a 3.08 ERA. Bell was originally selected by the Yankees in 10th round of 2002 draft.

Alex Carbajal, a left hand pitcher from Rosemead, California, has a career ERA of 3.97. He spent the 2003 season with the Sarasota Red Sox of the Florida State League finishing with a 4.17 ERA and 22 strikeouts. Carabajal, 26, was signed as nondrafted free agent by the Devil Rays in 2000.

Chris Miller, 23, is a catcher from Long Beach, California. In 2003 he played for the Lansing Lugnuts of the Florida State League, finishing with a .250 batting average. The dominant catcher also contributed 25 putouts in 2003. Bell was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in 11th round of the 2002 draft.

Joe Hastings, 25, joins the Spirit lineup with experience in the outfield and at first base. Throwing right and batting left, Hastings has a career batting average of .262. He spent the 2003 season with the Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League and finished the season with the Mobile Baybears of the Southern League. Hastings was originally selected by the San Diego Padres in the 24th round of 2001 draft.

Lastly, Dan Hall is a right-hand pitcher from Roper, North Carolina who was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 15th round of the 2000 draft. He boasts a 4.91 career ERA and spent last season in the California League with the High Desert Mavericks.

The Spirit have also made a trade for centerfielder Selwyn Langaigne, formerly of the Central Leauge's Edinburgh Road Runners, for future considerations.

The Spirit begin their second season at home on May 26 against the Allentown Ambassadors. All games will once again be broadcast on the flagship station of the North Shore Spirit, WESX 1230-AM. Individual game tickets are now on-sale by calling the Spirit ticket office at 781-592-0007.
