Spikes Announce 2012 Season Schedule

STATE COLLEGE - The State College Spikes, Central PA's Best Family Value and the Class-A Short-Season Affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, have announced the club's 2012 New York-Penn League schedule. The Spikes will once again play a 76-game regular season schedule, including 38 home dates at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park between June 19 and Sept. 5.

After opening the 2012 season with a road game in Williamsport against the Crosscutters (Philadelphia Phillies) on Monday, June 18, the Spikes' Home Opener will take place the following evening on Tuesday the 19th at 7:05 p.m. against the 'Cutters.

Standard home start times will remain 7:05 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays and 6:05 p.m. on Sunday evenings. There will be two exceptions to standard home start times during the 2012 season -- Tuesday, July 24 (Noon) and Monday, Sept. 3 (4:05 p.m.).

Williamsport, which will visit Medlar Field at Lubrano Park six times during the 2012 campaign, will be the Spikes' most common home opponent, followed by five games each against Pinckney Division foes Auburn (Washington Nationals), Batavia (St. Louis Cardinals), Jamestown (Florida Marlins) and Mahoning Valley (Cleveland Indians). Four interdivisional opponents -- Aberdeen (Baltimore Orioles), Brooklyn (New York Mets), Hudson Valley (Tampa Bay Rays) and Staten Island (New York Yankees) -- will visit State College for three-game sets.

The club's promotional and fan giveaway schedule will be released at a later date.
