
Spikes Announce 2010 Schedule

STATE COLLEGE - The State College Spikes, the Short-Season Class A Affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, today announced the club's schedule and game times for the 2010 New York-Penn League season. The Spikes fifth season of providing Central Pennsylvania's best summertime family value will open on Friday, June 18 with a road game against the rival Williamsport Crosscutters (Philadelphia Phillies). The Home Opener at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park will take place the following night, Saturday, June 19 at 7:05 p.m., also against the Crosscutters.
The Spikes will host 38 NYPL regular season contests at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park between June 19 and September 5. Standard game times will remain 7:05 p.m. for Monday through Saturday contests and 6:05 p.m. on Sundays. Four exceptions to standard game times will occur during the season: Sunday, July 4 vs. Hudson Valley (afternoon); Tuesday, July 13 vs. Vermont (Noon); Wednesday, September 1 vs. Auburn (6:35 p.m.) and Thursday, September 2 vs. Auburn (6:35 p.m.). The September 1 and 2 games will start 30 minutes earlier as a consideration for the beginning of the school calendar.

Coinciding with the announcement of the team's 2010 schedule, the Spikes have also announced that fans will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to any of the club's 38 home dates beginning Saturday, December 12 at Noon.
The Medlar Field at Lubrano Park Box Office will be open for in-person and telephone (877-99-SPIKES) purchases from Noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 12 during the Spikes "Winter Wonderland" event and then during regular daily business hours starting Monday, December 14 at 9 a.m. Fans can also purchase 2010 Spikes tickets any time day or night by visiting StateCollegeSpikes.com, beginning December 12 at Noon.
In lieu of admission to the "Winter Wonderland" event, fans are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy to be donated to the Salvation Army of State College or a non-perishable food item to be donated to the State College Area Food Bank. In addition, fans will have the opportunity to register to run in the Arthritis Foundation's Jingle Bell Run/Walk which will be departing from Medlar Field at Lubrano Park at 1:30 p.m. All kids are invited to participate in the "Candy Lane Shuffle" run on the field at 2:30 p.m.
Gates will open at Noon to a bevy of fun holiday events, including behind-the-scenes tours of the ballpark, activities in the indoor batting cages, interactive kids games, arts and crafts and visits from Ike the Spike, Nookie Monster, Bob the Baseball Dog and special guest Santa Claus. Members of the Penn State Baseball team will be on hand to meet and greet fans and sign autographs. Fans will also be treated to an assortment of light refreshments. "Off the Rack Outfitters", the official team merchandise store of the Spikes, will be open for holiday shopping and members of the Spikes front office will be on hand with information on all 2010 ticket packages, including season tickets, mini plans, flex books and group outings.
