Spiders Victorious over Growlers in Game Number One of Road Stretch

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders (19-13) picked up a huge win on the road over the Kalamazoo Growlers (22-11). Fond du Lac is embarking on a four game road stretch and now has one more game vs. Kalamazoo and two against Battle Creek.
Sam Hubbe (Butler) got the start on the rubber for Fondy and was excellent. The St. Charles, IL native retired the side in the first two innings of work.
In the top of the 3rd inning with two outs it would be a clutch hit from Alex Erro (Northwestern). Erro from the right side had two runners on base and jacked one out of the park for a three run shot that put the Spiders up 3-0. For the Miami, FL product he extended his hit streak to nine games and has eleven RBI in his last three games.
Kalamazoo added a home run of their own in the bottom of the 3rd which would decrease the deficit to two. Back out on the mound in his 4th inning of work Hubbe assorted his dominance by retiring the side, closing it out with a strikeout.
Leading things off for the Dock Spiders in the 6th with the score at 3-2 was Cole Zabowski (Ole Miss). Zabowski saw a pitch that was right for his taking and sailed it over the right field wall putting the Spiders back up by two. It was the first game this season that Fondy had home runs in back to back games as well as two in one game.
Fondy would tack on an insurance run in the 6th increasing the lead to 5-2. Ben Probst (Iowa) was the first pitcher to come out of the bullpen for the Spiders. Probst found his groove early and finished throwing 2 innings allowing just one hit and also tacking on three strikeouts.
Michael Hope (Shippensburg) who pitched in the 9th inning would close out the game on a strikeout.
Fond du Lac will square off against Kalamazoo for the fourth time this season tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is at 2:05 CST.
