Walla Walla Sweets News Release

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Walla Walla outfielder Spencer O'Neil had quite the opening weekend and was recognized as the West Coast League Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Heading to Columbia Basin College in the fall, O'Neil started his Sweets career in smashing fashion. He went 5-for-11 with a double, home run and five RBI in three games against Corvallis. His five RBI have atop the league leaderboard after the first weekend of the season. He shares the first weekly award with Kitsap pitcher Colin Feldtman.

In his debut Friday, O'Neil went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. He scored the first Sweets run of the night and then drew a bases-loaded walk to break a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning. On Saturday, he reached base three times courtesy of a single, walk and a hit by pitch.

He saved his best game of the weekend for Sunday, collecting three hits and driving in four runs. O'Neil tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first with an RBI double, extended the Sweets lead to 6-1 with an RBI single in the fourth and capped his day with a two-run, opposite-field home run in the eighth.

The Sweets continue their seven-game homestand on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Kitsap. The first game is scheduled for 5:07 p.m., with the second game beginning 30 minutes following the completion of the first game.
