Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Assists on two power play goals helped the USHL's leading scorer tie a Black Hawks legend in the midst of Waterloo's 2-1 win against the Fargo Force at Young Arena Saturday night.

Tied 1-1 and on the power play with 7:25 remaining in regulation, Taylor Cammarata centered a pass from the left wing corner. The puck arrived on the stick of Mike Huntebrinker, and his quick shot to the short side beat Brendan Jensen. With the point, Cammarata tied Jason Blake for third in career scoring during Waterloo's junior era. It was the second power play goal of the night in six tries for the Hawks.

Cal Petersen made the lead stand up. For the evening, he turned away 38 shots, two shy of the career-high 40 he accumulated during an overtime loss to the Force last weekend. Petersen's saves included all of Fargo's chances during four power plays. After a six-for-six penalty killing effort Friday against the Tri-City Storm, Waterloo was perfect while shorthanded during the weekend.

Although the Force had carried the play through most of the opening period and outshot the Black Hawks 14-10, Waterloo took the lead to intermission. With 52.3 seconds remaining in the period and the Hawks on their third power play of the frame, Cammarata set up Ian McCoshen's laser beam one-timer. The low shot made it through traffic and past Jensen into the back of the net.

Waterloo killed a couple of early Fargo power plays in the second, but the Force eventually tied the game with 6:27 remaining before intermission. A two-on-one rush resulted in the equalizer when Austin Ortega flipped a pass to the slot, redirected by Gabe Guertler for the score.

Besides their own victory, Waterloo was helped in the USHL Western Conference standings as the Omaha Lancers lost to the Sioux City Musketeers, 5-1. The Hawks now lead Omaha by three points in the battle for the league's final playoff spot.

After completing a run of five consecutive home games, the Black Hawks depart for Green Bay Tuesday. Following a visit to Dubuque next Friday, they return to Young Arena for the final regular season home games on Saturday, April 6th against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and Sunday, April 7th versus the Des Moines Buccaneers.
