Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-Throughout the 2011-2012 season and all of the new calendar year, the Waterloo Black Hawks are celebrating hockey's 50 year heritage in the Cedar Valley, and Saturday, the uniforms which the team wears will benefit many of the community's less fortunate residents.
The special red, black, and white jerseys are presented by Tyson Fresh Meats. After the Hawks face their longest continuous rivals, the Sioux City Musketeers on Saturday night, the sweaters will be auctioned with proceeds benefitting the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. Featuring the Hawks' 50th anniversary logo on the chest over a black and red tribal pattern, each jersey also displays the team's traditional emblem on the shoulders, with white numbers on the back below black lettering on a white field.
Team President Doug Miller thinks fans will be excited about the unique look.
"This is the first uniform to highlight the 50 year logo front and center, and I would like to thank Tyson. With their support and some help from Black Hawks fans, this is just one of many ways we hope to give back to the community which has sustained hockey here for five decades," Miller said.
Tyson Fresh Meats is a subsidiary of Tyson Foods, Inc., and a major employer in the Cedar Valley. The Northeast Iowa Food Bank is based in Waterloo and serves individuals and non-profit organizations over a 16-county area.
