Spartans Place Seven On WIFL All-League Team

June 22, 2007 - World Indoor Football League 2 (WIFL 2)
Augusta Colts News Release

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Augusta Spartans coach Bubba Diggs listened to the names on the World Indoor Football League's inaugural all-league team with an approving satisfaction.

The seven names he wanted and expected were listed as the Spartans matched the Columbus Lions for all-league honors. The Osceola Ghostriders and Daytona Beach Thunder had five and two selections, respectively.

As expected, the wide receiving tandem of Marvin Stone and Anthony Young led the Spartan delegation, with quarterback Mike Rathe and lineman TJ Watkins both near unanimous choices on offense.

Defensively, linemen Voncellis Allen and defensive backs Kijana Thomas and Richard Dykes round out the team. "No question, all these guys are deserving," Diggs said. "They're the veterans and they had the stats. I'm very pleased with the results."

Augusta (8-6) hosts Osceola (6-8) Saturday in the WIFL playoff game. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
