Augusta Colts News Release

COLUMBUS, Ga. - Marvin Stone's fifth touchdown of the night, a 3-yard pass from Mike Rathe with 18.9 seconds remaining, lifted the Augusta Spartans to a 63-60 victory over the Columbus Lions in the inaugural World Indoor Bowl before 3,529 at the Columbus Civic Center Saturday.

The Spartans (10-6) beat the Lions (10-5) in Columbus for the first time in three tries this season.

Columbus had the final possession, but Richard Dykes intercepted Joey Conrad - the third Spartan pick of the game - to preserve the victory.

Columbus trailed 56-47, but used two turnovers, an interception that Damian Daniels returned 50 yards for a touchdown and a fumbled kickoff that set up Joey Conrad's 8-yarder to Jarwarski Pollack with 3:03 left.

Earlier Augusta erased a 41-30 deficit to take a 43-41 lead on Rathe's 10-yarder to Stone with 5:37 remaining in the third quarter.

Stone caught seven passes for 94 yards and four touchdowns and also ran back one kickoff to match his WIFL regular season record of five touchdowns in a game. Rathe also matched his regular second record with eight touchdowns and was 19 of 31 for 261 yards.

Anthony Young added two touchdowns for Augusta. Conrad was 20 of 35 for 218 yards with seven touchdowns, four to Pollock, who finished with 116 yards on nine catches.
