Spartans Guarantee Win This Sunday
La Crosse, WI: In an unprecedented move, the La Crosse Spartans, a franchise without a win in team history, is guaranteeing a victory this Sunday. No team in sports has ever guaranteed a win without ever having won at least one game in their history. Should the team not win this weekend against the Sioux City Bandits, fans who purchased tickets for the game will be able to redeem their ticket stub for a free ticket to the May 21st game against the Bloomington Extreme. In addition, the team is securing additional prizes from local sponsors to give added value to purchasing tickets. Prizes include free bowling from Features, six free wings from Buffalo Wild Wings and free camping at Jellystone Park.
"The players have been working really hard to get a "w" and we know the fans are hungry for the franchise's first win. We hope with this promotion it will inspire both our players and our fans this Sunday," stated Spartans co-owner and General Manager Chris Kokalis. "We want the La Crosse Center to be packed this Sunday to see us get that first win."
Any fan that purchases a ticket to this Sunday's game must bring that ticket stub to the box office on May 21st to receive a free ticket of equal value to that day's game only along with coupons for prizes from Spartans sponsors. Only paid tickets to Sunday's game will be honored as part of this promotion.
First Spartans player headed to the next level:
The La Crosse Spartans announced today that Linebacker Blake Freese will be leaving the team to pursue invited workouts with multiple members of the Canadian Football League, which include the Montreal Allouettes and Edminton Eskimoes.
"One of the goals of this league is to help young men advance their professional football careers," stated Spartans Co-Owner and General Manager Chris Kokalis. "We're proud of Blake and are excited that the La Crosse Spartans organization provided this outstanding young man with an opportunity to showcase his skills and move closer towards his goals."
Coach Gilbert Brown echoed Kokalis' statements. "Not only is Blake a phenomenal football player, but also provides leadership on and off the field. Although it's tough to lose someone of his caliber on the field, we are very excited for him, and are excited to follow his career as he advances his game."
In just five games this season, the Spartans linebacker ranks seventh in the league in tackles with 44 (24 solo), and most recently intercepted a pass against the Green Bay Blizzard which he returned for an 16 yard touchdown. The Minnesota State-Mankato product has also recorded two sacks thus far.
Signal-caller Sangster to suit up:
Jimmy Sangster, the Spartans starting quarterback at the beginning of the season, will be in uniform this Sunday against the Sioux City Bandits. Sangster hasn't played since his injury in the first half of the Spartans first-ever game against the Wichita Wild. Before being injured, he threw for 136 yards and two touchdowns. He has missed the last four games with an injured MCL in his left knee.
Tickets for this weekend's game are still available, but are running out FAST! They can be purchased through ticketmaster.com or by visiting the La Crosse Center Box Office. Group tickets are still available as well, and can be purchased by calling the Spartans office at 608-782-4461.
