Spartans Announce St. Louis Tryouts

La Crosse Spartans News Release
The La Crosse Spartans and Head Coach Gilbert Brown announced today that the team will continue their quest to build a championship team by holding tryouts Sunday, October 18th in St. Louis, MO. The tryout will take place at Fairgrounds Park located at the intersection of Grand & Natural Bridge in St Louis. Registration and warm-up will begin at 1:00 pm with the tryout starting at 2:00 pm. The registration fee to tryout is $60 (cash or credit card only).
Participants must be at least 18 years of age and be prepared to be evaluated in the following drills: 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, four cone drill, standing broad jump, agility drills, position-specific drills and 7-on-7. Kickers will be evaluated on kickoff and field goal proficiency.
This will be the team's second tryout. The Spartans recently completed their first tryout over the weekend in La Crosse. The Spartans expect players from throughout the region to attend the tryouts. "We have said all along that we will do whatever it takes to put a winning team together," said Gilbert Brown, Spartans head coach. Brown certainly knows what it takes to win having participated in two super bowls with the Green Bay Packers. He helped the Packers win the Super Bowl in 1996. "If that means that we need to travel throughout the country scouting talent then that's what we are prepared to do. Assembling a winner for La Crosse is what we set out to do from day one."
"There are players throughout the country looking for an opportunity," said Chris Kokalis, Spartans co-owner and general manager. "I have said it before and I will say it again, this is an opportunity to get paid to play professional football. We are looking to assist players in taking their game to the next level such as the CFL or NFL. We believe we have the coaching staff and organization in place to get players to the next level."
