Sparks sign Thomas to multi-year contract

EL SEGUNDO, CA-Los Angeles Sparks forward Christi Thomas has been signed to a multi-year contract, it was announced today by general manager Penny Toler. In addition, Tiffany Stansbury has been signed to a training camp contract. Per team policy, terms of each deal were not disclosed.

Thomas was drafted by the Sparks in the first round (12th overall) of the 2004 WNBA Draft. In her 90 games with the Sparks, the 6-3 Thomas averaged 5 points and 4.1 rebounds. A Georgia graduate, Thomas averaged 12.8 points and was a 2004 AP All-American honorable mention and All-SEC First Team (coaches).

"I am very excited about continuing my career in LA. I have enjoyed my teammates and coaching staff and look forward to more memories with them," Thomas said. "I'm also looking forward to the changes that the new owners are going to bring, as well as the new memories and new championships."

A center/forward from North Carolina State, Stansbury was signed by the Sparks during the 2006 season. In her four games, she averaged 1.5 offensive rebounds and 1.5 points.

Entering their 11th season, the Sparks will operate under new ownership led by investors Katherine Goodman and Carla Christofferson. The Sparks will open the 2007 season in Chicago when they take on the Sky on May 22.
