Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
(ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.) - Through two games in Albuquerque to open the second half, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys have launched nine home runs.
Five of those home runs came Saturday night, including the longest home run in franchise history, in a 10-5 win over the Isotopes.
Yainer Diaz hit the Space Cowboys' first homer of the night, with a two-run shot in the third that hit high off the left-field scoreboard at Isotopes Park. Diaz's home run traveled a projected 475 feet, making it the longest home run in Sugar Land's franchise history (since 2021).
Diaz homered for the second straight night, giving him eight since joining the Space Cowboys and 16 total on the season. He finished the night 2-for-4 with the home run and three RBI.
The Space Cowboys added three more runs in the fifth - all on solo home runs.
Corey Julks and Taylor Jones hit back-to-back shots. Julks' homer was his team-leading 19th of the year and traveled 468 feet to center field. Jones followed with a 472-foot blast to left field, giving him six on the season.
Pedro León added his second homer in as many nights - and his 13th of the season - with a solo homer two batters later. León has hit eight of his 13 home runs this year against Albuquerque.
Enmanuel Valdez hit the final home run of the night, delivering an opposite-field solo homer in the eighth. Valdez became the first Houston Astros minor leaguer with 20 home runs this season. It was his ninth homer since joining Sugar Land. Valdez has hit .392 (20x51) with two home runs and 10 RBI over his last 12 games.
Peter Solomon struck out six batters through 5 1/3 innings to pick up the winning decision. Solomon has recorded a 2.82 ERA through his four July outings. Solomon's 2.82 ERA in July is fourth best in the Pacific Coast League.
The Space Cowboys jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first on an RBI single from Diaz and two-run single from Alex De Goti. They have scored eight first inning runs through the first two games of the series.
Sean Bouchard hit his 12th home run of the year in the first, momentarily cutting the Space Cowboys lead to 3-2.
The Space Cowboys will go for their second sweep of the season at 7:05 p.m. on Sunday night. Chad Donato is set to face off against Ryan Feltner.
