Sox Sweep Armada

The Reno Silver Sox delivered again at Peccole Park Thursday night as they defeated and swept the Long Beach Armada in a three game series with a 14-7 victory bringing their season record to 5-10.

Starting pitcher Jesse Hall (1-1) pitched six innings giving up only six runs, three earned, and four hits while walking five, and earning his first win on the season. Hall kept the Armada scoreless for four innings, but gave up three more in the sixth, two which were on an outfield error. Coming in to relieve Hall was pitcher Mike Reeves who threw an impressive two innings in which he only allowed one hit while striking out three. Ending the game was relief pitcher Shawn Ravenscraft who gave up three hits and one run.

Once again the Silver Sox bats hit the Armada where it counted as the Silver Sox had 14 runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher, for the Armada, Dustin Gober took a beating as the Sox scored 11 runs on 11 hits in Gober?s short lived two innings. The Sox scored all their runs in the first three innings starting off with a ground out RBI in the first inning for DH John Hattig who had one run in his three at bats.

C D.J. Dixon continued his hitting streak of 13 games when he hit a single straight into center field scoring1B Ryan Brown in the second inning. Dixon had two hits, two runs, and two RBIs in his four at bats. CF Gary Harris took the lead for the Silver Sox 5-4 in the bottom of the second when he doubled, driving in SS Andre Alvarado and Dixon. Harris had two runs, two hits, and two RBIs in his five at bats.

The Silver Sox blew the game open with a nine run third inning starting when Gober hit 3B Steve Alexander with a pitch with the bases loaded bringing in the first run. Alvarado, who had two hits, two runs, and two RBIs in his four at bats, nailed one to the center field wall for a double, scoring two runs.

Relief pitcher Garrett Murdy was brought in as Long Beach was desperate to end the beating, but the Silver Sox offense wasn?t finished yet. 2B Shaughn Neal grounded out to second allowing Dixon to score. LF Ryan Crespi added to the nine run inning by doubling which allowed both Harris and Alvarado to score. Crespi had two runs, three hits, and three RBIs in his five at bats. RF Juan Senreiso hit a single which brought Crespi in and Senreiso was knocked in by 1B Ryan Brown. Both batters had two hits, two runs, and one RBI in their three at bats.

The Silver Sox head out to Orange County for a three game series with the Flyers, including a double header on Saturday. The Silver Sox come home to Peccole Park on Tuesday, June 17 when they face the Edmonton Cracker Cats for the first time in franchise history. Remember that Tuesday is Two for Tuesday!
