RICHMOND, VA - The Pawtucket Red Sox beat the Richmond Braves 10-3 Tuesday at The Diamond. The Red Sox erupted for five runs in the third inning and coasted to a win in the opener of a four game series.
The Sox took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Brandon Moss. Chad Spann knocked in a run in the second to give the Sox a 2-0 advantage. Richmond tied the game in the home half on a two-run homer by Brent Lillibridge. But Pawtucket responded by sending eight men to the plate in the third and scoring all five runs after there were two outs. Moss knocked in another run with a single. Bobby Scales doubled a run home. Spann chased in two with a double. Alex Prieto capped the rally with an RBI single to make the score 7-2. Moss collected two more RBI in the fourth with a single. Joe McEwing smacked a home run in the sixth giving the Sox a 10-2 lead. The Braves tacked on a run in the ninth on an RBI single by Martin Prado.
Kason Gabbard tossed seven innings to earn the win. Trey Hodges took the loss. Moss had three hits. McEwing scored four runs. Doug Clark had three hits for the Braves.
The Braves and Sox clash again Wednesday at The Diamond at 7 PM. Kevin Barry will pitch for the Braves against Abe Alvarez.
