
Sox Split Doubleheader with Mustangs

Billings, MT - Tonight the Great Falls White Sox were defeated by the Billings Mustangs in game one. Noe Rodriguez (0-3) took the loss for the Sox as he worked five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits. The win went to Carlos Fischer (4-0) as he worked five innings, allowing one run on two hits. The save went to Abe Woody (5) as he worked the seventh only giving up a hit.
The Mustangs scored first in the third inning. Chris Denove hit a groundball under the glove of Garrett Guest. On the play Jose Ronda scored to put Billings up 1-0. Great Falls would then tie the game in the fourth on a homerun to left field by Manny Rodriguez.
In the fifth inning, Billings added two runs. Ronda scored on another Sox error before an RBI single by Adam Rosales. Billings added one more in the sixth when Ronda plated JD Roberts to put the Mustangs up 4-1. They would take the first game of the double header by the same score.
In game two, Great Falls defeated Billings 6-4. Travis Doyle picked up the win (2-0) as he worked two innings in relief allowing two runs on three hits. Nick Lemon picked up the save (1) as he pitched three perfect innings and compiled seven strike outs. The loss went to Jose Rojas (1-4) as he worked three and a third innings, giving up four runs on five hits.
Great Falls jumped on the board first. In the first inning Daron Roberts had a sacrifice fly to center bringing home Evan Tartaglia. Billings would counter with a run of their own as Mayker Sandoval singled home Michael Griffin. Then in the second inning, Billings took the lead on an RBI double by Josh Holden, driving in Michael DeJesus.
In the third, lead off man Rolando Acosta would homer to left to tie the game at 2-2. The Sox would then take the lead in the fourth. With a runner on and one out, Brandon Allen hit one down the right field line. Right fielder Jordan Belcher signaled for a dead ball but it was never granted from either umpire as the ball remained in play. Allen came all the way around to score on a two-run, inside the park homerun to put the Sox up 4-2.
The lead was extended to 6-2 on back-to-back RBI hits by Matt Tribble and Manny Rodriguez in the fifth inning. Billings would cut into the lead in their half of the sixth when Griffin hit a two-run homerun to left. However, after that batter, Nick Lemon entered and pitched to the final nine batter of the game and set aside seven on a third strike. Great Falls won the nightcap 6-4.
Tomorrow night the Sox will play the third game of the four game series with the Billings Mustangs. The starters for the game are: Eric Everly (LHP) for Great Falls and Robert Wachman (RHP) for Billings. Game time is at 7:05pm and can be heard on 560AM-KMON starting at 6:50.
