Billings, MT - Tonight the Great Falls White Sox were defeated by the Billings Mustangs 9-8 in 13 innings at Cobb Field in Billings. Matt Nachreiner (4-3) took the loss in relief as he worked a third of an inning, allowing the winning run. The win went to James Morris (1-0) as he worked a third of an inning, to only one batter.
Great Falls scored first in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Matt Tribble. Two more runs in the second on a Rolando Acosta two RBI single put the Sox up 3-0.
Billings would answer with four runs to take the lead in the bottom of the second on a two RBI hit by Chris Denove, an Eric Eymann run scoring single, and JD Reininger's base hit to score another run. After another Reininger RBI hit in the fourth, Billings was up 5-3.
Great Falls would then take their second lead of the game in the fifth inning. Three runs scored to put the Sox back up. Daron Roberts had an RBI groundout, Manny Rodriguez a run scoring double before a Francisco Hernandez sac fly.
The game continued to go back and forth in the seventh as Brandon Johnson walked with the bases loaded in the seventh. Billings would get closer in the bottom of the inning on another two RBI hit by Denove to make it 7-7.
Billings took the lead in the eighth when Jay Bruce singled to right. However, Great Falls would again comeback in the ninth on a two out double by Johnson to score Javier Castillo from first base to send the game to extra innings.
The game went to the 13th inning, and with the bases loaded and one out, Josh Holden singled through the drawn in infield to give the Mustangs a 9-8 win.
Tomorrow night the Sox will take on the Billings Mustangs for the third game of a three game series, and the final game of the roadtrip. The starters for the game are: Noe Rodriguez (LHP) for Great Falls and Travis Wood (LHP) for Billings. Game time is at 7:05pm and can be heard on 560AM-KMON starting at 6:50.
