
Sox Hot Bats Fall Asleep

The Bristol White Sox hot bats went silent after the first inning in an 8-2 loss to the Johnson City Cardinals. The Sox were looking for a three-game sweep of the Cardinals and to improve their winning streak.
Alex Williams put the Sox on the board first with a two-run homerun to left field in the bottom of the first inning to give the Sox a 2-0 lead. The homer was Williams's second on the season.
The Cardinals tied the game at two in the top of the third when Ildemaro Vargas doubled in Cesar Valera and C.J. McElroy. The Cardinals later added two more runs in the top of the fifth to make the score 4-2 when Vargas reached on a throwing error scoring Gerwuins Velazco and McElroy.
In a disastrous top of the sixth inning for Sox pitchers, which allowed four Cardinals runners to cross the plate which was highlighted by a big three-run single by McElroy to give the Cardinals a 8-2 lead over the Sox.
On a night when Sox bats only collected six hits in nine innings, Williams led the way for Sox bats going two for three with the two-run homer in the bottom of the first. Vargas and McElroy knocked in three runs each for the Cardinals.
Todd Kibby picked up his second loss on the season for the Sox, while striking out six Cardinal batters. Bryan Martinez gathered his first win of the season for the Cardinals. The 5-10 Sox will travel to Burlington and the 7-8 Cardinals travel to Greeneville.
The Sox will be back home on July 11 against the Johnson City Cardinals on Christmas in July Night.
