Sox Bombard Armada

July 24, 2008 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Reno Silver Sox News Release

The Silver Sox (2-2) bombarded the Armada (3-3) with four homeruns last night, as Reno took game two in the three game series with an 8-3 win.

Starting pitcher Jesse Hall made the fans a bit nervous in the first inning when he gave up three runs off three hits. It was the last time, however, that an Armada batter would bring in a run. Hall still a bit sore from a line drive that hit him in Chico, pitched four innings giving up three runs off four hits, walking six, and striking out three. Coming in to support Hall was righty Andrew Alvarado. Alvarado (1-0) only allowed one hit and struck out two in his three innings of work, and earned his first win of the season.

Making his debut for the Silver Sox was Errol Simonitsch who threw one inning and made a fantastic stop on a rocket ground ball to the mound. Finishing out for the Silver Sox was Scott Schneider. Schneider allowed only one hit before taking care of the next three Armada batters.

Once again the Silver Sox offense stepped up to the plate and tonight launched four balls over the outfield fence. In the first inning, the starting pitcher for the Armada, Jonathan Figueroa, walked LF Ryan Crespi. 3B John Hattig came out and nailed one over the left center wall bringing in the first two runs of the game for the Sox. Hattig went two for three with two RBIs and two runs.

2B Carlos Madrid took his turn at the Silver Sox homerun derby when he hit a solo homerun over the left field wall in the fourth to tie the game at three. Madrid was three for four with one RBI and two runs. After Hattig was walked in the eighth, Manager Jeffery Leonard put in pinch hitter Doug Sanders. Sander?s speed wasn?t needed though because DH Juan Senreiso had other plans when he hit his tenth homer of the season. Senreiso was one for four with two RBIs and a run.

1B Steve Alexander would later hit his eleventh homer of the season in the eighth after Madrid stole home on a wild pitch. Alexander went two for four with two RBIs and a run as the Silver Sox ended the eighth with five insurance runs with a score of 8-3. The Armada couldn?t handle the heat of Schneider as the Silver Sox took their second win in a row.

The Silver Sox look to sweep the Armada in game three tomorrow night at Peccole Park. The game starts at 7 P.M. with the gates opening at 6 P.M. Fans don?t forget that tomorrow is Archie?s Fan Night! Head on over to Archie?s and get yourself some free tickets for tomorrow?s game!
