Normal CornBelters News Release
NORMAL, Illinois - The CornBelters have announced the re-signing of six-foot-five Scott Sebald, a left-handed pitcher from Cincinnati, Ohio.
Sebald will look to bolster the rotation and bring some stability to the lineup. The CornBelters sought out for Sebald who has previous experience in the minor league, MLB-affiliated Arizona League and pitched for Normal in 2017.
Scott played four years at NAIA Lindsey Wilson College where he led his team in innings pitched, ERA, and strikeouts. He holds the record at Lindsey Wilson for career wins, ERA, strikeouts, innings pitched, and starts.
Jonathan Burton, Sebald's college coach, had high praise for Scott as he entered his professional baseball career, "There is no doubt in my mind that he will continue to develop and will always be looking for ways that he can improve his game. Winners work while others are not watching and that's what Scott is, he's a winner."
In 2016, after signing a professional contract with the Texas Rangers, Sebald was sent to their Single-A organization: the Spokane Indians. In five appearances with the Indians, he produced a 1-0 record with a 0.00 ERA, giving up eight hits in ten innings pitched and struck out 14 batters while only walking three. With the Arizona League Rangers, Sebald pitched in nine games and delivered a 3.86 ERA through 21 innings.
After his time in the Arizona League, Sebald signed with the Lancaster Barnstormers in the Atlantic League, a competing independent baseball league. After being released from Lancaster, the CornBelters picked him up quickly, and he found success throughout the 2017 season. Sebald ended his first Frontier League season with a 9-2 record and a 2.89 ERA.
