(Toledo, OH) Defenseman Joe Stejskal scored for the Walleye but the Stingrays took game one 2-1 Friday night at the Huntington Center. South Carolina leads the best of seven series one game to none. Game two is Saturday night at the Huntington Center.
South Carolina started the scoring with an even strength goal from Wayne Simpson at 9:09 of the first period. Toledo evened the game at one when Joe Stejskal blasted a perfect slap shot over the glove hand of Jeff Jakaitis at 11:58 in the second period.
Late in the second period, South Carolina capitalized on a power play chance to take a 2-1 lead. Toledo outshot the Stingrays 10-6 in the third period but couldn't even the score.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg finished the game with 22 saves on 24 shots and his record is 7-6 in the playoffs. Shane Berschbach went pointless and his seven game point streak comes to a close. Toledo also game one of the Wheeling series (Round One).
