South Bay Lakers Checkmate Kings Down the Stretch

EL SEGUNDO - The South Bay Lakers played in their eleventh NBA G League regular season game against the Stockton Kings as they won 127-120 on Monday night. Jalen Hood-Schifino led the Lakers (8-3), in scoring with 18 points. Skal Labissiere paced the Kings (9-3), scoring 25 points.

Stockton jumped out to an early seven-point lead before behind six early points from guard Jordan Ford. Strong quarters from Shaq Harrison and Skylar Mays got the Lakers back into the game. South Bay trailed 33-38 after one.

Both teams continued to trade buckets for the majority of the second frame. Harrison and Ford led their respective teams, scoring 11 each in the half. The Lakers trailed at the half 63-69.

South bay stormed out of the second half, quickly taking a four-point lead of their own just three minutes in to the third period. The game continued to be very tightly contested, with Stockton taking a one-point lead into the final frame, 97-98.

South Bay put together a 12-2 run to start the period to build their first significant lead of the game with six minutes remaining. From there, South Bay would never relinquish the lead, closing out the game 127-120

Hood-Schifino put together a final line of 18 points, three rebounds, nine assists, and one block in 32 minutes. Harrison added 17 points and three assists while Alex Fudge added 15 points and nine rebounds off the bench. For the Kings, Labissiere scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Ford put up 18 points and dished out seven assists.

South Bay will face off against the Salt Laker City Stars on Friday, Jan. 26 at 7:00pm from the UCLA Health Training Center.
