South Bay Lakers News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS - The South Bay Lakers fell on the road for the first time this season as they lost to the Memphis Hustle, 137-120, on Monday night. Devontae Cacok tallied his fourth double-double in as many games with 20 points and 14 rebounds, but it wasn't enough for South Bay (2-2) to pull out the win. The Hustle (5-0) remained undefeated as three players scored at least 20 points, led by 27 from De'Anthony Melton.

Memphis led by as many as 15 points in the first quarter, but the Lakers rallied to cut the deficit to five, 32-27, after one. The bench duo of Cacok (six points, six rebounds) and David Stockton (four points, three assists) came in and immediately got the team back in the game. It was more of the same in the second quarter as South Bay fell behind by as many as 20 points before coming back to make it a seven-point game, 70-63, at the half. Stockton paced his team with 11 first-half points while Melton led the Hustle with 16 points at the break.

The Hustle controlled the third quarter, taking a 113-92 lead into the final frame. Matt Mooney and Yuta Watanabe scored 11 points apiece in the third to give their team the big lead. Cacok, Reggie Hearn and Gary Payton II combined for 18 points in the fourth, but the Hustle were able to hold on and remain unscathed on the season.

Melton finished with a game-high 27 points to go along with nine rebounds, five assists and three blocks, while Josh Jackson finished the game with 22 points, six rebounds and three steals. Watanabe scored 22 points and Jarrod Uthoff grabbed a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Dusty Hannahs (14 points), Mooney (13 points, nine assists) and Marquis Teague (12 points) also had double-digit scoring nights for Memphis.

Cacok's double-double paced the Lakers, while Stockton did some of everything off the bench with 19 points, four rebounds, nine assists, one steal and one block. Payton II grabbed his second double-double of the season (17 points, 11 rebounds, four steals, two blocks) and Hearn added 14 points as he knocked down his 500th career three-pointer. Two-way players Zach Norvell Jr. (14 points) and Kostas Antetokounmpo (10 points) also scored in double figures.

South Bay now travels to take on the Iowa Wolves on Wednesday, November 20 at 5:00pm from the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, IA.
