Nashville Sounds News Release
Albuquerque, NM- Six Nashville players rapped out two or more hits and Luke Allen, Chris Truby, and Mike Moriarty all homered during the Sounds' 11-2 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes in the finale of a four-game series and an eight-game road trip on Sunday evening at Isotopes Park.
With the victory, Nashville (32-30) pulled within 2 1/2 games of PCL Eastern Division-leading Oklahoma, which has dropped four in a row.
The Sounds scored early and often against Isotopes pitching on Sunday night. Rich Thompson led off the ballgame with a single and scored two batters later on Andy Abad's RBI triple.
Nashville poured it on in the top of the third, plating six runs against Albuquerque starter Mike Nannini. Truby highlighted the inning's scoring with a three-run homer. His 11th longball of the season extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Luis Figueroa and Moriarty added run-scoring singles later in the frame before Sounds starter Nelson Figueroa ripped the first of his two hits on the evening, an RBI double to right-center to put Nashville ahead by a 7-0 count.
Albuquerque catcher Ryan Jorgensen provided both of the Isotopes runs on the night with a two-run blast off Figueroa in the bottom of the third.
Nashville plated its final four runs on Moriarty's fifth-inning solo homer, his fourth roundtripper of the year; a Tony Alvarez RBI groundout in the sixth that scored Thompson; and Allen's two-run homer in the top of the ninth, the outfielder's ninth tater. Allen finished 3-for-5 with that longball and a pair of doubles for Nashville in the victory.
Nelson Figueroa (6-4) picked up his second straight victory after allowing two runs and fanning five over seven innings, adding a 2-for-3 effort at the dish to aid his own cause. Nannini (3-5) took the loss for Albuquerque after surrendering seven runs on nine hits in only three frames of work.
The Sounds return to Greer Stadium on Monday evening to begin a seven-day, eight-game homestand with the 7 p.m. opener of a four-game series against the Omaha Royals. It will be the first of 16 meetings between the clubs this season.
Right-hander John VanBenschoten (2-6, 4.83) will start Monday's 7 p.m. opener for the Sounds and face Omaha right-hander Jason Dickson (1-1, 4.73).
