Tucson Sidewinders News Release

DH Bucky Jacobson and 1B A.J. Zapp hit back-to-back home runs in the 9th to break a 1-1 tie and give Tacoma a 4-1 win. The victory was Tacoma's third in a row over Tucson this series. The night was a pitchers duel up until the ninth with both starters dealing out their best stuff. Starter LHP Travis Blackley pitched 6 strong innings, allowing only a run on 4 hits before he was ejected along with his manager, Dan Rohn, in the 7th inning. Reliever Jeff Harris (1-2) pitched 2 scoreless innings to pick up the victory and LHP George Sherrill earned his 6th save of the year with a perfect 9th.

For Tucson, RHP Edgar Gonzalez pitched well, also allowing only just 1 run through 6 innings, but left with a no decision. LHP Jim Parque took the loss by surrendering the two home runs in the 9th. 1B Steve Neal must have put on his legged out a double and triple on the night. His triple in the 7th drove in the only run of the night for Tucson, and 1st run since the 1st inning of last night's game, a streak of 14 total innings.

It was Jacobson's 14th homer of the year and Zapp's 10th . The Rainiers won the series with 1 game left to play to go for the sweep. Every starter in the Rainiers lineup had at least 1 hit, marking the second time it has happened in the series. It also happened in game 1 on Thursday.

The win propelled the Rainiers to 33-24, still comfortably atop the Northern division. The Sidewinders, with their season-long 4th consecutive loss, dropping the team to 3.5 games back of the 1st place Sacramento RiverCats.

4,188 was the night's attendance and the game lasted 2:37. Probables for tomorrow feature Tacoma's RHP Gustavo Martinez (1-0, 3.55) facing Tucson's RHP Shane Reynolds (0-0, 4.32). Game time is 6:00 PM.
