Nashville Sounds News Release
The Nashville Sounds have been selected as the Pacific Coast League's nominee for the Larry MacPhail Trophy, an honor given by Minor League Baseball which recognizes the top promotional effort in the country. Nominees for the award are from all levels of Minor League Baseball. The winner will be announced at the Baseball Winter Meetings this December in Anaheim, Calif.
Clubs are nominated for the Larry MacPhail Promotional Trophy based upon their promotional efforts during the course of the year. Between-inning promotions, giveaway items, theme nights, community relations, off-season promotions, advertisements, souvenir programs, and public relations are all considered when selecting a club for the annual award, which was established in 1966.
The Sounds continued their recent success at the turnstiles in 2004, drawing over 400,000 fans for the first time in 11 years and experiencing their fifth consecutive year of increased attendance using a variety of unique ballpark promotions, community programs, and marketing plans throughout the year.
Fans at Greer Stadium were treated to a promotion at each of the team's 72 home games, ranging from ticket and concession specials to giveaways to 19 post-game fireworks shows to the Sounds' Faith Night program, which garnered national attention from dozens of media outlets headlined by ESPN and USA Today as the first Christian-based sales program in professional sports.
Each of the Sounds' seven Faith Nights offered fans a pre-game concert by a notable Christian recording artist, a testimonial from members of the Nashville team, and a great night of baseball, friends, and fellowship.
Arguably the most publicized component of the program came when the Sounds introduced a new collectible to the sports world by unveiling biblical figures Moses, Samson, and Noah as bobblehead giveaways for designated Faith Nights. And the team located "on the buckle of the Bible belt" took it one step further in August with a Bible giveaway prior to its final Faith Night.
The Sounds took a step into cyberspace to extend their 2004 promotions, offering fans the unique opportunities to realize their dreams of becoming a radio announcer for a day or "joining the team" as a member of the 2004 Nashville baseball card set through a series of online auctions.
The 2004 success for the Sounds extended off the field, as the team gave much back to the community that supports it in several ways. They dedicated a portion of their Faith Night revenue to fund the "Sounds Faith House" through the local Habitat For Humanity program, providing a much-needed new home for a Middle Tennessee family. Goodwill Industries named the Sounds as its "Donor Of The Year" in Middle Tennessee for the team's thousands of dollars of contributions. And the ALS Association recently acknowledged the Sounds as one of its top national partners after the team held a series of very successful silent auctions and donation drives at the ballpark this summer.
The Sounds are already in preparation for the 2005 season, which opens in April at Greer Stadium. Season tickets, mini-plans, and group outing packages are currently on sale. Contact the Sounds box office at 615-242-4371 or visit the team's website at www.nashvillesounds.com to order or for further details. The 2005 season will be the Sounds' first year as the Milwaukee Brewers' top affiliate.
