Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. - Seattle Sounders FC today announced its 2014 Team Award recipients, as voted on by the Sounders FC technical staff and players. Obafemi Martins was voted Sounders FC Most Valuable Player and won the club's Golden Boot as its top scorer, Chad Marshall is the club's Defender of the Year and Dylan Remick has been named Humanitarian of the Year.
Sounders FC Most Valuable Player and Golden Boot - Obafemi Martins
A finalist for 2014 Volkswagen MLS MVP, Martins set a club record with 17 goals (fifth in MLS) and matched a club record with 13 assists (tied for fifth in MLS). His five multi-goal games were tied for second in MLS, and his four game-winning assists were tied for fourth. The forward started 29 of his 31 appearances in 2014 and accumulated 2,600 minutes, and Sounders FC was 12-0-0 in games in which Martins scored a goal.
Sounders FC Defender of the Year - Chad Marshall
In his first year with Sounders FC, Marshall became the first player in league history to be named MLS Defender of the Year three times. He led the league with 136 interceptions and recorded an impressive 126 headers won, 206 clearances and an 83% passing accuracy. The 11-year MLS veteran also recorded one goal - an 84th-minute winner against Philadelphia on May 3 - and matched a career-high with three assists.
SOUNDERS FC Humanitarian of the Year - Dylan Remick
The second-year pro was a constant figure in the Seattle community this year. Among his many appearances, Remick was a monthly volunteer at Hope Placeshelter for homeless women and children, made numerous visits to Seattle Children's and Mary Bridge Children's Hospitals, visited Oso, Washington during the tragic mudslides in March, shaved heads for cancer awareness, and waited tables for Cystic Fibrosis at The Metropolitan Grill. Remick's selflessness and care for the community is further exhibited by his 18 unpaid community appearances this season.
