BINGHAMTON, NY - The American Hockey League's 2001-02 Regular Season Champion and Eastern Conference Playoff Champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 3-0 on the road to the Binghamton Senators Saturday. The Sound Tigers now trail Binghamton three games to two in their best-of-seven, Eastern Conference Semi-Final series with game six scheduled for Monday at 7:05 p.m. at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard.

After the teams played a well-paced but scoreless first period, the Sound Tigers nearly took the first lead as Trent Hunter, who scored the game-winning goal with :21.4 left in regulation last night, had a shorthanded breakaway late in the second period but hit the Binghamton cross bar. The Senators then moved the puck up to the other end of the ice where Josh Langfeld opened the scoring with 4:01 left in the middle frame with his third goal of the playoffs on assists from Radim Bicanek and Bob Wren. Langfeld's goal was scored on Binghamton's first power play of the contest ending an 0 for 23 drought on the advantage during the series, as well as an 0 for 24 scoreless skid on the power play dating back to game three of the Senators' quarterfinal sweep of the Worcester IceCats.

Chris Bala, who scored the game-winning goal for Binghamton with :16 left in game two last Sunday, doubled the lead to 2-0 with his second goal of the postseason with 6:34 left to play on assists from Antoine Vermette and Brad Smyth. Chris Kelly then made it 3-0 Senators 2:27 later with his first goal of the playoffs on an assist from Bonvie.

Binghamton Goaltender Ray Emery made 26 saves for his second shutout of the postseason while Rick DiPietro made 22 saves in a losing effort for the Sound Tigers who had a 26-25 shots on goal advantage. The Senators were 1 for 2 on the power play while the Sound Tigers were 0 for 4. Emery was the first star of the game. Langfeld was the second star. Bala was the third star.
