Philadelphia Soul News Release

PHILADELPHIA - The undefeated Philadelphia Soul have placed defensive back/kick returner Mike Brown and defensive back Brian Mance on injured reserve, while signing defensive backs Rob Keefe and Jeremy LeSueur.

Brown suffered a hamstring injury on the opening kickoff of the second half of the Soul's 57-28 win over the Dallas Desperados on Monday. He is expected to miss at least four weeks of action.

For the season, Brown has 32 tackles and a team-leading five interceptions. He has also returned 50 kickoffs for 969 yards and three touchdowns, earning the Ironman of the Game honor in eight of the nine games.

Mance, who ranks second on the team in tackles with 49.5, suffered a fractured left ankle in the Dallas showdown when he landed awkwardly on his ankle in the third quarter. He is out indefinitely.

Keefe has been the Soul's practice squad for most of the season. He was active for Philadelphia's Week 8 win over the Columbus Destroyer, playing most on special teams and finishing with half a tackle.

LeSueur, 27, joins the Soul after spending time in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets and the Denver Broncos. A third-round pick by the Broncos in 2004, LeSueur played collegiately at Michigan.

The Soul also waived DL Kevin Carberry and OL Van Nelson from the practice squad.

The Soul (9-0) play in Cleveland tonight against the Gladiators (4-4). After a trip to Georgia for a game against the Force on Monday, May 12, the Soul return home to face the Columbus Destroyers on Saturday, May 17 at 7 p.m. (et).

The Philadelphia Soul are celebrating their fifth anniversary this season. The team has drawn an AFL-best 514,226 fans combined during the past four years. Following last season, the Soul were recognized with the Commissioner's Award as the Organization of the Year and were an honorable mention for the PRISM Award in the category of fan appreciation.
