May 2, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Philadelphia Soul News Release
The Philadelphia Soul will pursue a 10th consecutive victory of the season against their division rivals the Cleveland Gladiators (4-4) at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland tonight (Friday, May 2) at 7:00 p.m. (et). The Soul bring a franchise best 11-game regular-season winning streak with them to Cleveland, having won their first nine games this year to mark the best start in franchise history. The game can be heard live on radio locally on 950 ESPN (WPEN) and on the web at www.950ESPN.com.
The Soul have won their first nine games despite an injury to their star quarterback Tony Graziani in Week 3. The Soul are coming off their biggest win of the regular season last week against the Dallas Desperados. The game was the latest meeting of undefeated teams in AFL history and the Soul romped the Desperados 57-28 to remain undefeated. The Soul defense held the potent Dallas offense to under 30 points for the first time since May 1, 2004 and for only the second time in team history.
The Soul boast the best offense in the league right now leading in points (585), passing TDs (61), and second in yards (2,737). Chris Jackson continues to impress in his first season with the Soul, he needs one touchdown reception to become just the third player in league history to hit the 300 TD milestone and extend his streak of consecutive games with a touchdown reception to 52. Jackson also is five touchdown receptions shy of passing Eddie Brown for second all-time.
The Gladiators, who are in their first year in Cleveland after moving from Las Vegas, lead the all-time series 3-0 and they are 2-1 at home this season. The Soul can become just the fourth team in AFL history to begin its season 10-0 with a victory Friday night in Cleveland.
