
Soul Jerseys To Be Auctioned For Virginia Tech Victims

PHILADELPHIA - Beginning Tuesday, May 1, the Philadelphia Soul along with Russell Athletic through the MeiGray Group began an auction to benefit the victims of the Virginia Tech tragedy. The Soul is auctioning game used authentic Philadelphia Soul jerseys worn by the players featuring a Virginia Tech memorial patch.
The tribute jerseys were worn on Monday, April 30, during the Soul's game against the Chicago Rush featured on ESPN2. They will be worn again for Philadelphia's upcoming game Saturday, May 5, against the Kansas City Brigade at the Wachovia Center. Also up for auction are two team-issued jerseys to be worn on May 5 by Soul co-majority owner, Jon Bon Jovi, and Team President, Ron Jaworski.
The auction will continue until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund established to remember and honor the victims of the Virginia Tech tragedy and aid the healing process. The funds will be used to cover expenses including assistance to victims and their families, grief counseling and memorials.
The MeiGray Group was formed by Barry Meisel and Bob Gray, two sports memorabilia collectors from New Jersey who met in January 1997 trading game-worn hockey jerseys. They began selling game-worn jerseys to the sports-collecting public in August 1997.
