AFL I Arena Football League (1987-2008)

Drive to ArenaBowl XXI heats up in Week 10 with Divisional Matchups

May 2, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release

NEW YORK - The Drive to ArenaBowl XXI New Orleans is underway as the ArenaBowl XX Champion and Central Division leading Chicago Rush (7-1) welcome the Colorado Crush (6-3) on Russell Athletic ESPN Arena Football Monday on May 7, at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and ESPN360.com.

The ArenaBowl XIX winning Crush swept the Rush during the 2006 regular season, but Chicago got the final word as they stunned Colorado with a 63-46 victory in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. The win propelled the Rush into the American Conference Championship game and onto the team's first title, a 69-61 win, in ArenaBowl XX.

Chicago, No. 3 in this week's Schutt Sports Poll, can match the longest winning streak for a defending ArenaBowl Champion at eight games with a victory.

There will be an abundance of offense as two perennial offensive threats face off with Rush WR BOBBY SIPPIO (79 REC, 1,188 YDs, 35 TDs), the AFLWA Mid-Season Offensive Player of the Year, meeting Crush WR DAMIAN HARRELL (67 REC, 788 YDs, 23 TDs), the AFL's reigning two-time Offensive Player of the Year.

Colorado, No. 4 hopes to keep their momentum going from three straight wins, including a 45-42 victory over the Kansas City Brigade on Friday.

The No. 1 ranked Georgia Force (8-1) host the No. Orlando Predators (5-3) at Philips Arena in a Southern Division matchup on Friday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m. ET (CSS - Delay, 5/5, 1 p.m. ET and SIRIUS Radio- Channel 119).

With QB CHRIS GREISEN (2,828 YDs, 73 TDs) at the helm, the Force has begun its season with the best record in franchise history, and are the only team in AFL history to score 60+ points in eight of its first nine games of a season.

Greisen, who is flanked by the "trifecta" of WR CHRIS JACKSON (82 REC, 1,149 YDs, 28 TDs), WR/LB TROY BERGERON (71 REC, 964 YDs, 25 TDs), and WR/DB DEREK LEE (62 REC, 653 YDs, 18 TDs), can keep the Force's pace with Dallas for the best overall record in the National Conference and stay undefeated in their division and at home in the process with a victory.

Orlando, No. 6 is coming off an impressive 69-34 victory over the Las Vegas Gladiators that saw QB SHANE STAFFORD (2,051 YDs, 38 TDs) complete 17-of-20 passes (.850) for 255 yards and six touchdowns.

The Predators are led on offense by WR/DB JAVARUS DUDLEY (49 REC, 758 YDs, 17) and FB/LB MARLON MOYE-MOORE (28 ATT, 54 YDs, 6 TDs).

The Dallas Desperados (8-1) look to improve to a franchise-best 9-1 as they travel to the EnergySolutions Center in Salt Lake City to play the Utah Blaze (5-4) on Friday, May 4, at 9 p.m. ET (KJAZZ - UPN - LIVE, AFL NET).

Led by QB CLINT DOLEZEL (2,565 YDs, 59 TDs), the Desperados, No. 2, are 10-2 on the road over the past two seasons, and won their only contest against the Blaze in a 56-53 thriller in Week 2 of the 2006 season.

Utah QB JOE GERMAINE (3,136 YDs, 67 TDs) and the rest of the League leading Blaze offense (355.0 ypg.) will try to reignite their high-powered offense that was held to a season-low 48 points in a 69-48 loss to rival San Jose on Saturday.

In one of the AFL's longest-standing rivalries, the Arizona Rattlers (2-7) look to bounce back from a 67-45 loss to the New York Dragons with a win over the first place San Jose SaberCats (5-3) at the U.S. Airways Center on Saturday, May 5, at 10 p.m. ET (FSN - Bay Area - Live, AFL NET).

San Jose QB MARK GRIEB (2,547 YDs, 53 TDs) and WR/LB BEN NELSON (82 REC, 1,009 YDs, 20 TDs) try to make it three in a row against the Rattlers while Arizona looks to jumpstart the second half of their season with an upset.

This week's games also include: New York at Columbus on Friday (CSN - LIVE, AFL NET); Kansas City at Philadelphia on Saturday (SIRIUS Radio- Channel 181); Nashville at Grand Rapids on Saturday (CSS - LIVE, Comcast local); Tampa Bay at Austin on Sunday (SUN - LIVE, FSN - SOUTHWEST - Delay, 5/7 at 12 a.m. ET); Los Angeles at Las Vegas on Sunday (PRIME TICKET - LIVE).
