Somerset Sweeps Bridgeport

(Bridgewater, N.J. - May 17, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (12-8) suffered a sweep to the Somerset Patriots (12-8) as the road squad lost by a score of 4-2 on Thursday at TD Bank Ballpark.

The Bluefish jumped out to the lead in the first with two outs. Prentice Redman started the rally with a double to left and scored on a line drive base hit by Luis Lopez to leftcenter.

With Bridgeport ahead by a run, Somerset responded in the bottom of the second to tie the contest. Jeff Nettles drove a two-out solo drive to left.

In the third, the Patriots took the lead courtesy of a two-out solo blast by Jonny Tucker to left.

Somerset continued to add runs. In the fourth and fifth frames, the Patriots pushed across a run. With runners at the corners in the fourth, Tucker singled to leftcenter to allow the thid runner to cross the plate. In the next frame, with a runner in scoring position, Nettles ripped a double to left to increase the advantage to three.

The Bluefish scored a run on a passed ball with Joey Gathright at third; but the road squad was unable tomake a comeback.

Bridgeport starter, Isaac Hess (2-1), suffered the loss as the southpaw completed five innings and allowed four runs, eight hits, and five walks while fanning six. Jonah Bayliss surrendered two hits and a walk in two scoreless frames while Rommie Lewis finished the game without Somerset scoring or reaching base.

Somerset hurler, Doug Arguello (1-1), picked up the victory as the southpaw worked six innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks while striking out four. Three relievers combined to throw three shutout frames while Bridgeport produced a hit and a walk while fanning four times against the tandem. One of the pitchers was Josh Rupe who notched his fourth save of the year.

Bridgeport returns to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on May 18 as the Bluefish take on the newest member of the Atlantic League; the Sugar Land Skeeters.
