Central Islip, N.Y. - The Long Island Ducks (15-15) completed a three-game sweep of the Somerset Patriots (18-13) Sunday afternoon at Bethpage Ballpark with an 8-1 victory.

Long Island carried an early 5-0 lead after a second-inning two-run home run to left from Alex Burg (5) and a third-inning three-run home run to right from Angelo Songco (8).

The Ducks later added three runs in the bottom of the eighth on RBI singles from Burg and Dan Lyons. Somerset's lone run came in the top of the ninth when Jerry Sands scored on a passed ball.

"We just got to find a way get a win," said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. "Every day is a new day - these guys know that - and we just need to come out ready to go tomorrow."

Tim Melville (2-2) earned the win on six scoreless innings of work with three hits, two walks and eight strikeouts. David Kubiak (2-3) took the loss after he allowed five runs on five hits over six innings with five strikeouts.

Somerset travels down to Texas and opens up a three-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters Monday Night at Constellation Field. Right-hander Lucas Irvine (0-1, 4.76 ERA) takes the mound for Somerset against Skeeters righty Kyle Drabek (1-3, 7.56 ERA).
