Monterrey scored the first goal 2:11 into the game when David Pereyra fed Victor Quiroz. Less than two minutes later at 3:59, the Sockers¹ Daniel Antoniuk found the back of the net for his first goal of the season off an assist by Paul Wright. The Fury fired back at 5:05 with a Marco Lopez goal for a 2-1 lead. Sockers defender Sean Bowers quickly answered that goal with the equalizer at 5:52. The Sockers took their first lead of the game at 9:22 of the first quarter after Kevin Sakuda assisted an Ato Leone goal. The six-goal opening quarter concluded with the Sockers¹ Tony Velazquez scoring at 11:24 to take a 4-2 advantage.

Ricardo Gil and Armando Valdivia brought the Fury to within two before halftime with goals at 9:01 and 13:43, respectively.

The lone goal of the third quarter came from the Sockers¹ Kevin Legg at 10:34 from Antoniuk.

Monterrey battled back to close the gap to one with two quick goals to start the fourth quarter. Genoni Martinez scored an unassisted goal ten seconds into the quarter and Walter Gomez followed with his own at 1:21. The Fury continued to apply the pressure throughout the fourth quarter by out-shooting the Sockers 13-3, but could not get the tying goal and San Diego hung on for its first road victory since last playing in Monterrey on December 28, 2003.

The Sockers and Fury will go at it again in Monterrey on Thursday night beginning at 6:35 p.m. PST. The Sockers defeated the Fury both times in an earlier back-to-back on December 27 and 28. San Diego is 1-3 this season in the second game of a back-to-back set.
