
Sockers Trade Defender

SAN DIEGO, Calif. Â San Diego Sockers Head Coach Brian Quinn announced today that the Sockers have traded defender Gaston Pernia to the Monterrey Fury in exchange for defender Brad Flanagan.
"We are still trying to mold the team for this season and this may not be the last trade we make," said Quinn.
Flanagan will join his third team this season. Originally starting preseason training camp with the Dallas Sidekicks, the Texas native was traded to the expansion Monterrey Fury prior to the beginning of the season. He spent the first five years of his career with the Sidekicks. The 28-year- old defender finished with 28 goals and 22 assists in 113 games with the Sidekicks. During his time with the Fury, Flanagan was credited with three goals and four assists in 13 games played and contributed 14 blocks on the defensive side of the ball.
Pernia was a 2002-03 Western Conference All-Star and has spent the past two and a half seasons with the Sockers. The native of Argentina is coming off the best year of his career, highlighted by 80 blocks in 35 games during 2002-03. In the 2003-04 season Pernia has tallied a goal and an assist, along with 25 blocks in 16 games.
The Sockers next game will be against Monterrey this Friday at 7 p.m. at the San Diego Sports Arena. San Diego also hosts the Milwaukee Wave on Saturday, January 10 at 7 p.m.
