San Diego Sockers News Release

SAN DIEGO-The San Diego Sockers will hold a press conference on Wednesday morning at 11:30 am to reveal the player--selected by fan and front office balloting-who will have his number retired in a Saturday ceremony at the Del Mar Arena. The working media is invited to the Hall of Champions at Balboa Park to hear the announcement and meet with the selected veteran player.

The Sockers announced their decision to retire another number to the rafters of the Del Mar Arena prior to the Sockers "Legends Night" contest against the Fusion on December 29th, 2010. Since then, Sockers fans have been voting online at www.sdsockers.com for their favorite Sockers legend yet to have his number retired. Alan Meyer, Branko Segota, Ben Collins, David Banks and Zoltan Toth were the five nominated former players. Fan voting concluded on February 19th and counted for 33% of the total ballot, which also included input from retired players and the San Diego Sockers front office.
