San Diego Sockers News Release
SOCKERS AVENGE LOSS TO COUGARS
The PASL-Pro Western Division Champion San Diego Sockers ran their league winning streak to seven games and won their ninth straight overall, defeating the California Cougars 9-5 on Saturday night in front of 2,393 at the Del Mar Arena. A physical and contentious contest saw the Sockers jump out to a 5-2 lead after the first quarter and then hang on after the Cougars had cut the deficit to 5-4. Anthony Medina broke the game open with a goal late in the third quarter, and Brian Farber had three of his four assists in the fourth quarter as the Sockers pulled away for their 13th win of the year.
CHILES TAKES LEAD FOR GOLDEN BOOT
The battle for the PASL-Pro goals title looks like it will come down to the final game. Sockers forward Kraig Chiles grabbed the league goals lead with a pair of tallies in Saturday's win over California and now has 31 goals in 15 games. Chiles got a break when Revolucion Tijuana's game against the Cougars was rained out the day prior, leaving Eduardo Velez (30 goals) without a game to play. With little likelihood of the game being made up Velez is likely done for the year. Cincinnati's Jeff Hughes has 27 goals with two games remaining.
FARBER FABULOUS AGAINST FORMER TEAM
Sockers midfielder Brian Farber continues to show why he is a difference maker in the PASL-Pro. The league MVP from 2008-2009 played his fourth game with the Sockers on Saturday and recorded his second five-point game of the year, tallying a goal and four assists. Farber also has a four-goal game this season and has totaled 6 goals and 7 assists (13 points) in his four games with the team.
NEXT UP: SOCKERS VS. DRILLERS
The Sockers close out the regular season against the Edmonton Drillers from Canada's CMISL. San Diego will retire the jersey of legendary Sockers' goalie Zoltan Toth at halftime. The Sockers would clinch the best record in the PASL-Pro and the right to host next season's playoffs, as well as the top seed in this year's tourney, with a victory.
